@RISK – for Integrated Risk And Decision Analysis in Excel
Wouldn’t you like to know the chances of making money – or taking a loss — on your next venture? Or the likelihood that your project will finish on time and within budget? How about the probabilities of finding oil or gas, and in what amounts?
With @RISK, you can answer these questions and more – right in your Excel spreadsheet. Palisade’s @RISK software performs Monte Carlo simulation to show you many possible outcomes of your spreadsheet model and tells you how likely they are to occur. By mathematically computing and tracking many possible future scenarios, and the probabilities and risks associated with each one, you will be able to judge which risks to take and which ones to avoid, allowing for the best decision making under uncertainty.
Over the course of the two days, attendees will learn how to use quantitative techniques, such as Monte Carlo simulation, to perform defensible risk assessments using @RISK. The course does not require any prior experience of using Palisade software but a basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel is recommended. Participants will need to bring a laptop with a copy of Palisade software installed upon it. This seminar on the best practices and principles of uncertainty analysis using @RISK will be conducted by Sarah Sherry. A software consultant for Palisade, Sherry was previously a Senior Lecturer at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. She taught spreadsheet modeling techniques and programs in the DecisionTools Suite for over thirteen years, and was nominated for the Kelley School’s highest teaching award four times, receiving it once.
Sarah collaborated with Dr. Wayne Winston on two Harvard Business School Press courses, Spreadsheet Modeling and Mathematics for Management, and she is currently co-authoring an introductory business analytics textbook, to be published by Indiana University Press
