7 AI-Based Movies To Look Forward To In 2021

Hollywood has been trying to keep up with the burgeoning hype around artificial intelligence. As a matter of fact, AI has become a critical ingredient of sci-fi and futuristic movies. The year 2020 has seen many releases such as Tenet, Superintelligence, Archive and Bloodshot with heavy AI content. At the first blush, 2021looks like another exciting year for AI-oriented movies.

Here is the list of movies to look forward to in 2021 that depicts artificial intelligence.

Outside the Wire

Release Date: January 15, 2021

Outside the Wire has been set in the near future, where a drone pilot is sent to work with an AI-based android officer to locate a doomsday device. Anthony Mackie, who depicted Falcon in the Marvel movies, plays the super-advanced android officer in Outside the Wire. Mackie, with its AI capabilities can outshoot, outfight, outrun, and outthink just about anyone, and needs to beat a series of command paradoxes to achieve his goals. 

Free Guy

Release Date: May 21, 2021

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Free Guy is an action-comedy movie set in an AI-based video game world — Free City (programmed by some developers). However, Guy is a non-player character who has been trapped in this Free City. Much like Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show, Guy eventually becomes aware of his world being a video game and tries to race against the time to save the same before the developers shut it down. The movie will showcase the inner world of a video game with many AI-based characters

Chaos Walking

Release Date: January 21, 2021

Another American AI-based movie, Chaos Walking, is based on the sci-fi trilogy The Knife of Never Letting Go. Set in the not-too-distant future, Chaos Walking is the story of a mysterious girl and a boy who crash lands on a planet, where all the men are afflicted by “the Noise” – a force that puts all their thoughts on AI-based display. Eventually, the girl realises that her life is threatened and the boy has to channelise his inner power to unlock the planet’s dark secrets. 

Space Jam: A New Legacy

Release Date: July 16, 2021

A fictional story based on basketball legend LeBron James, Space Jam: A New Legacy is an animated sports movie that shows what happens when  AI algorithms go rogue. In the movie, LeBron James and his young son Bronny – who dreams of being a video game developer  –  gets trapped in a virtual space by a rogue algorithm named Al-G Rhythm. LeBron must bring his son home safe by leading the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the Al-G’s digitised champions on the court.

Ron’s Gone Wrong

Release Date: April 23, 2021

Ron’s Gone Wrong is an animated movie that showcases the usefulness of robots in real-life. The writers depict a world where walking, talking, digitally-connected bots are children’s best friends. The 11-year-old Ron finds out his robot friend is malfunctioning. Eventually, the boy manages to teach his robot the ways of the world. The movie promises a few heart-warming interactions between humans and machines.

Release Date: December 21, 2021

This year, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will once again be back with The Matrix 4, without Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus. Although the plot is currently unknown, it is expected to show a massive war between the humans and the AI-powered machines. As a matter of fact, the Matrix itself was built by artificially intelligent sentient programs called The Architect and The Oracle. Within that, all the world aspects are simulated by different programs, and the Agent programs control the humans within the world.

Bios

Release Date: April 16, 2021

Tom Hanks starring Bios is a post-apocalyptic fiction drama revolving around an ailing inventor, supposed to be the last man on Earth, who builds an android to keep him and his dog company. The story starts when he goes on a journey across the country, with his dog and AI-based robot buddy. The robot protects the life of his creator’s beloved dog, learns about life, love and friendship, and take the human-machine relationship to the next level.
