Two decades after the launch of the first iPod, Apple has decided to discontinue the product that revolutionised the way we consumed music. Apple has shipped more than 450 million iPods, the first of its kind device to ‘hold 1,000 songs in your pocket’.
“Today, the spirit of the iPod lives on. We’ve integrated an incredible music experience across all of our products,” Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
The popular iPod models include iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle and the latest iteration, iPod Touch. Touch was released in 2007 and last updated in 2019. The model will remain available “while stocks last”.
“Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry — it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared,” said Greg Joswiak.
iPod fans have taken to Twitter bid adieu.
