Due to the practice in social distancing and quarantine to flatten the curve of the pandemic, there has been a rise in demand by online consumers. According to sources, the e-commerce giant Amazon said that it would hire 100,000 warehouse and delivery workers in the United States to deal with a surge in online orders.

Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations at Amazon, Dava Clark said in a blog post, “We are opening 100,000 new full and part-time positions across the U.S. in our fulfillment centres and delivery network to meet the surge in demand from people relying on Amazon’s service during this stressful time, particularly those most vulnerable to being out in public.”

In order to draw 100,000 new roles, the e-commerce giant will invest over $350 million globally to increase pay by $2/hour in the U.S., C$2 in Canada, £2/hr in the UK, and approximately €2/hr in many EU countries through April for employees and partners who are in fulfillment centres, transportation operations, stores or those making deliveries so that others can remain at home.

There are three categories where the company is focussing its current hiring, which are Shoppers (Shoppers locate and carefully choose items in the comfort of Whole Foods, then package them for one or two-hour delivery), Warehouse (Work inside an Amazon warehouse includes selecting, packing and shipping customer orders), Delivery Driver (Deliver packages to homes and retail locations as an Amazon Flex delivery driver or a delivery service partner (DSP) driver). 

To apply for the jobs, there are no such requirements of resume or previous work experience. The roles will pay at least $17 per hour through April.
