Apple’s latest ad features Microsoft Powerpoint

The rivalry between Apple and Microsoft goes way back.
Listen to this story

In an interesting twist of events, an Apple ad on the front page of a popular Indian English daily that featured a Macbook air had a Microsoft Powerpoint tab open on its screen. The simplest explanation is it’s probably a flub. But Apple is usually detail-oriented and a mistake like this slipping through the cracks doesn’t seem like an Apple thing. The ad has been a topic of hot debate, with netizens offering up a lot of alternate theories.

The rivalry between Apple and Microsoft goes way back. Recently, Microsoft backed Epic’s claims calling Apple an antitrust violator.

The second possibility is that the ad could be a co-promotion deal, where Microsoft must have cut a deal with Apple to promote Powerpoint. However, it  seems unlikely given Microsoft doesn’t get a lot of play in the full page ad.
The ad could also be interpreted as Apple subliminally acknowledging the popularity of Microsoft Powerpoint in India.
