The Delhi Traffic Police is planning to launch an AI-powered Integrated Traffic Management System, or ITMS, soon to manage traffic and cut down on congestion on roads, officials said in a statement. The new system will also determine routes for emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire engines. They also announced that the Delhi Police Headquarters would set up a new command centre to take care of the operations and oversee the programming end of the system.
The traffic management system will also automatically synchronise the traffic signals and monitor the traffic lights. The ITMS will also warn motorists about diversions ahead of any traffic. The system will be integrated with the parking spaces that are run by civic bodies so that motorists can be notified about a free spot on a parking lot.
Deputy Commissioner of Police from Traffic Headquarter-II SK Singh stated that motorists could check for updates on the Delhi Municipal Corporation app. The ITMS will also be connected with Google Maps for this purpose.
“We have been given eight months’ time for the project, and the first Detailed Project Report has to be prepared after surveying the traffic at 42 junctions to cover 1,200 signals and 600 blinkers. It has to be submitted by November this year,” the officer added.
