Honeywell’s engineering and technology arm, Honeywell Technology Solutions (HTS) has signed an agreement with IIT Hyderabad to establish an artificial intelligence laboratory. The lab will be managed and maintained by IIT Hyderabad. As per the agreement, HTS and IIT Hyderabad will be conducting joint research on technologies with AI as the major focus area. Further, students of IIT Hyderabad and select employees of HTS will be provided with industry-specific training, remote project mentoring, engineering certificate course, hackathons, and training workshops.
The two organisations will also develop courses pertaining to the emerging technologies Honeywell uses to enable students to gain some industrial exposure. The course content will be mutually reviewed and regularly updated.
While inaugurating the Lab, Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, said, “IITH is the first institute in the country to offer full-fledged BTech in AI in line with the recommendation of NEP 2020. I am confident with the recommendation of NEP 2020 such collaboration would become more common and further strengthen to achieve the goal of internalization at home.”
Samuel Pratap, President, HTS, said, “The creation of this lab will blend experiences between fundamental research and applied research.”
This is not the first time that Honeywell and IIT Hyderabad have collaborated. In the past, they have jointly conducted hackathons, knowledge sessions, and tech talks. The Materials Research Lab at IIT Hyderabad has been funded by Honeywell and on the other hand, a few employee-engineers from the company have enrolled at the institute for PhD courses.
