IIT Madras’s new Data Science degree course does not require JEE

In the latest offering by IIT Madras, students can now pursue a Data Science degree without appearing for JEE. Deserving and economically weaker students can opt for a 100% scholarship.

IIT Madras is one of the most sought-after institutions in India constantly innovating to bring knowledge to the doorstep of every deserving student.  After the successful launch of its online BSc course in Programming and Data Science, the prestigious institution has now opened its doors to its new BS degree course in Data Science. 

Students of any age group can seek admission to the course, and since it’s online, there is no need to worry about the geographical location of the institution. A web notice by IIT Madras, reads, “This first-of-its-kind programme makes it possible to study from IIT Madras without attempting the intensely-competitive Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).”

The four-year course does not require one to take the JEE entrance exam to get admission. Students can opt for certificate, diploma or degree as per their requirement. 

“This directly benefits the students from rural areas and economically disadvantaged backgrounds for whom attending JEE coaching classes would be a significant hurdle,” it further read.

The course offers 100% scholarship to students from economically weaker backgrounds. 

“IIT Madras is happy to offer this well-designed, contemporary BS in Data Science and Applications degree, which provides access to IIT quality education in an inclusive manner to learners across the country. Data Science is one of the emerging topics. This is a highly employment-oriented program in a domain where the demand is high for skilled resources,” Prof V. Kamakoti, director, IIT Madras told The Hindustan Times.

Last date and how to apply?

The last day to apply for the September 2022 batch is 19 August 2022.
