As coronavirus cases in Israel surge past 1,200, Rafael Advanced Defence Systems, which is a state-owned Israeli technology company, has recently announced that it has converted an AI-based cyber-security defence system in order to predict the location of the coronavirus outbreak.
In this time of increasing uncertainty, such sort of innovation can prove to be beneficial for the country. The system uses artificial intelligence to analyse big data sets and find patterns and draw conclusions from them. The company used several databases, including social networks.
With the crisis getting out of hand, Rafael Advanced Defence Systems has converted the system for their citizen’s use, in order to help them extract data from health, municipal and other databases for predicting the locations of the coronavirus outbreak.
Because of its AI capabilities, the system can help in prioritising the testing of the virus and should alert Israel’s Ministry of health and hospitals of expected loads.
Apart from this, in efforts, Israel will impose a two-week quarantine on all travellers entering the country. A lot of the country’s hospitals are also turning towards artificial intelligence to monitor patients and to regulate the flow of visitors.
This system, developed by, Israeli researchers can help in identifying, and possibly predicting future coronavirus outbreak zones. The method was devised by experts at the Weizmann Institute of Science, in collaboration with researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Health Ministry.
