InfoCepts, in collaboration with MachineHack, successfully completed the ‘Infocepts Data Engineering Hiring Hackathon’ held from August 27 to September 9 for data engineering and data science professionals. The hackathon saw 500+ participants competing with zeal and presented a variety of solutions.

E-commerce has disrupted the retail industry in recent years, giving way to evolving digital shopping trends. Whether retailers want to personalise communication, make informed marketing decisions or provide relevant choices to customers, they are turning to data for answers. The goal of the hackathon was to tackle important problems on a deep dataset that captures the online behaviour of eCommerce shoppers.
The participants performed multiple data engineering tasks and transformations to derive metrics to understand the shoppers’ purchasing habits.
Let’s look at the hackathon winners who impressed the judges with their analytics skills and got the opportunity to participate in InfoCepts’ annual retreat and connect with the best minds in data and analytics.

Ayush Patwa, an analyst at Polestar Solutions and Services, Kolkata, secured the first rank. With a degree from Jadhavpur University in chemical engineering, Patwa is a data engineer by profession.

Sumanta Basak, again from Kolkata, secured second position in the hackathon. Basak is a predictive analytics lead at Accenture and is well-versed in Python, R & SAS. Sumanta has developed an end-to-end retention solution using an ML model coupled with a proper data engineering process, resulting in a decline in attrition. Basak has been a part of MachineHack since 2021 and is currently ranked amongst the top 1% in a Kaggle competition.

Out-of-the-box solutions, high degree of skills displayed
The Infocepts Data Engineering Hiring Hackathon witnessed participation from enthusiastic techies, who put forward out-of-the-box solutions for the problems they were presented with. With such skills at the display, the hackathon was a roaring success.
