Microsoft India to set up its largest data centre region in Hyderabad

According to an IDC report, Microsoft data centre regions in India contributed revenue of USD 9.5 billion to the economy from 2016 to 2020.

Tech giant Microsoft announced its fourth and largest data centre in India in Hyderabad; the region will comprise three pockets of land and will be operational from 2025. Microsoft was previously in three existing regions – Mumbai, Chennai and Pune. It will offer the company’s entire portfolio across its cloud, data solutions, AI, its tools like Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, customer relationship management (CRM) with data security for enterprises, start-ups, developers, education, and government institutions.

“It is a continuous investment. It (Hyderabad data centre) will not be largest from Day 1, but it will become largest over a period of time,” Anant Maheshwari, president of Microsoft India, said. The Microsoft India Development Centre (MSIDC) in Hyderabad is the company’s largest software development centre outside of its headquarters in Washington.

“I am extremely delighted that Microsoft chose Hyderabad as the destination for its largest data centre investment in India. This will also be one of the largest foreign direct investments (FDIs) the state has attracted. Microsoft and Telangana have a long history, with Hyderabad hosting one of the largest Microsoft offices in the world, and I am happy to see the relationship grow,” Shri K.T. Rama Rao, the Minister of State for Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Industries and Commerce and Information Technology, stated.

According to an IDC report, Microsoft data centre regions in India contributed revenue of USD 9.5 billion to the economy from 2016 to 2020. The report also stated that approximately 1.5 million jobs were created from Microsoft data centres over a period of 5 years, including 169,000 new skilled IT jobs.
