President Droupadi Murmu on Monday inaugurated the new campus of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Dharwad saying premier educational institutions have a crucial role to play in preparing youth in niche areas such as AI and data analytics.
She said that the NEP 2020 emphasizes the need for building knowledge in society. “If by using artificial intelligence, integration of bio-technology, nano-technology and neuro-sciences can be achieved, then new types of innovations can be brought about in the fields of health, environment and fields that are directly related to common people,” says Droupadi Murmu, President of India.
Murmu iterated that it has been conveyed through the National Educational Policy 2020 that students will gain capability of taking up research of new categories through AI and data sciences. Acknowledging the collective efforts made by the government, institutions and individuals such as Sudha Murty (chairperson of IIIT Dharwad), the President said, “There is need for establishing knowledge network in the region and I am of the firm belief that if institutions and companies come together to work on research development, success will automatically come.”
The President said that it was a moment of pride as IIIT Dharwad is preparing students for the future with quality education. With its tagline Gyan Vikas [development through education], she said that the institute is training youth to become ‘world leaders in knowledge’.
The President expressed joy over IIIT Dharwad developing a humanoid robot that helped patients and the elderly. “Efforts are also on to include speech recognition in the project so that Indian languages can also be identified,” she informed. The President said India is experiencing a digital revolution through the Digital India programme.
The inauguration took place in the presence of Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, CM Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi among other dignitaries.
