After the stupendous success of its smartphones in India, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi pJlans to introduce its line of smart home products. Will Xiaomi smart home devices soon become a reality? Speaking on the sidelines of the Redmi 4 launch, Xiaomi India head, Manu Jain, said, “2017 will be the year when we can introduce more products from our ecosystem. Right now we are testing the Indian market to see if there is a market for these products and though we haven’t specifically launched any products, if the market is ripe, we will do it”.
Xiaomi’s line of smart home products include fitness bands, power banks, air purifiers, rice cookers, smart suitcases and water kettle among other products which are a hit on the home turf. The Chinese manufacturer also boasts of a Mi smart home kit that comprises of smart entertainment, smart sensors for windows and doors, remote control devices using a smartphone and connecting to other smart devices. The popular smart home suite is easy to install and packs all the features and functionality required in smart home packages.
The smart home market in India is pegged at US$67m in 2017 with a household penetration of 0.3 % in 2017 and is expected to scale to 1.3 % in 2021. If the Chinese manufacturer makes a foray, Xiaomi smart home devices could be a hit too.
