Awarded as one of the top postgraduate programmes by Analytics India Magazine for two consecutive years, PGP in Data Science by Praxis Business School is gearing up to address the current supply-demand gap in the Data Science ecosystem with the expansion of its programme to India’s financial capital, Mumbai. Praxis’ Mumbai Campus will bridge the gap in Data Science recruitment across sectors—manufacturing, pharma, telecom, and energy—in Mumbai, Pune and adjoining regions.

With the meteoric rise in the demand for data scientists, the need for a rigorous, full-time, placement-supported programme in data science in that region will also be met with Praxis’ new campus. In Mumbai, Praxis Business School is also looking to tap into the large pool of tech, finance and quant skilled/trained manpower best qualified to pursue their Data Science programme.

Several educational institutions are now offering courses in data science and allied domains, across undergraduate and postgraduate levels and in varying delivery modes and durations. But, they are yet to catch up to Praxis Business School. According to our analysis, not only does their programme perform exceedingly well in terms of value returns, but it also commands high repute among recruiters as the first of its kind, a full-time postgraduate programme dedicated to the growth and future of Data Science in India.

However, the real challenge has always been to break into this ecosystem with a well-paying, meaningful job in a reputed organisation, and that is where Praxis comes in!

Trailblazers in the Data Science landscape

In India, Praxis Business School established itself as a pioneer in this field by launching its Business Analytics programme — the first full-time programme dedicated to this domain in the country in 2011—at its Kolkata campus.

In 2016, Praxis laid the foundations of its second campus in HSR Layout, Bengaluru, along with a second intake, Spring (January), a year earlier—quickly evolving to two batches each at Kolkata and Bengaluru campuses. Among the first to recognise the upward trend in the Data Science industry in India, Praxis is nearly a decade ahead with its postgraduate programme.

Why Mumbai?

Amid substantial demands—from both the recruiters and the alumni alike—to set up another campus in the region, there were a few other key factors that drove this decision: first, Mumbai is India’s financial capital, and a sizeable percentage of recruitment takes place in the BFSI domain; second, the progressive democratisation of data science has led to demands in sectors like manufacturing, pharma, telecom, energy—all with a strong presence in Mumbai, Pune and adjoining states; third, there is a felt need in that region for a rigorous, full-time, placement-supported programme in data science; and lastly, there is a large pool of tech, finance and quant skilled/trained manpower who are best qualified to pursue the Data Science programme.

What to know: Curriculum, Delivery, Assessment and More

Praxis offers a rigorous 9-month, full-time, in-class post-graduate programme in Data Science. Driven by an in-depth understanding of the complexity of the domain, the curriculum is skilfully designed to equip students with the latest tools, techniques, technologies and business application knowledge required to build successful careers in Data Science.

The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, use case discussions, labs, and projects led by an expert team of professors with high academic pedigree and significant industry experience. Industry plays a crucial role in curriculum design, program delivery and assessment, and recruitment. This close relationship helps keep our pedagogy current and effective and makes a massive contribution to offering exciting opportunities to the programme candidates.

In the course of this knowledge exchange, student learning is assessed on a continual basis through a mix of quizzes, tests, assignments and projects to enhance, examine and reward the ability to think and solve problems.

Further, the Praxis student community is diverse across gender, geography, academic background, age and work experience—with fresh graduates fraternising with individuals with 10+ years of experience. They, however, share in common high academic standards, a healthy competitive spirit, and a passion for data science. This community is driven by its immense in-group learning and membership in a powerful network for life.

Transform with Praxis: From students to professionals

The commitment to success is also a shared trait among these candidates—with nearly 90% of them having quit worthy jobs to sign up for this programme. However, the value offered by Praxis’ PGPDS far exceeds the investment made by these candidates in terms of time spent, the course fees and the opportunity cost of continuing with their existing jobs with the resultant promotions/increments.

Students receive placement offers halfway into the program, often as soon as five months after commencement. The salaries offered by the recruiters are in many multiples of their last drawn compensation.

There are many instances of salary jumps of 300% or more. With a course fee of INR 6.05 lacs [inclusive of GST] and the average salary offered of INR 12.30 LPA, and that too consistently for 95+ % of the batch, it makes for a compelling value proposition.

Offered roles ensure that the graduates work on mission-critical assignments, associating closely with members of the CXO suite, providing detailed insights for better decision-making—leading to rapid recognition, better packages and an overall impressive career trajectory.

Skyrocket with the Praxis Placement Programme!

Praxis runs the most comprehensive campus placement programme in data science. The institute has successfully placed close to 30 graduate batches of data scientists, with a resounding 95%+ average placement success. The Praxis day-zero has assumed a cult status—with 92% of the Spring Class of 2022 placed within the first half. Graduates with work experience, on average, achieve more than a 100% hike over their last drawn salary.

But the journey doesn’t end here for Praxis graduates.

The first Praxis batch in Business Analytics (subsequently rechristened Data Science) graduated in 2012. Praxis alumni have since then blossomed into an enviable network of professionals with up to 10 years of experience in data science who are a source of great motivation and support for current and future professionals. They are the institute’s brand ambassadors and contribute in several ways to Praxis’ growth story.
