Recently, India’s central and state governments took notable initiatives to digitise their operations across the board, leading to a growing demand for data analytics.
Here are some of the emerging data analyst profiles in government organisations.
1. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI): The central authority in the development, maintenance and management of the national highways in India.
Position: Joint Advisor (Data Scientist)
Requirements: The desired candidate should be proficient in Python and have experience writing SQL queries for analysis or data processing, designing and building dashboards and visualisations using BI tools, plotly and others. Further, the candidate should also have a minimum of one-year of work experience in data science.

2. National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA): Established in 1976 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, for research and capacity building for the urban sector in India—NIUA serves as a think tank for urban planning and development.
Position: Urban Data Analyst
Responsibilities: The candidate is expected to support NIUA’s in-house team with the collection, processing and analysis of data aggregated from various sources.
Requirements: The candidate should have a postgraduate or a PhD in a technical field with 2 to 4 years of work experience in the data science field.

3. Tamil Nadu E-Governance Agency (TNeGA): Established to support and drive all e-governance initiatives of the Government of Tamil Nadu to make all government services feasible and accessible to all sections efficiently and transparently.

Requirements: The candidate should have a minimum of 2+ years of work experience in data analytics.

4. Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI): Established in 2009, THSTI is an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and is designed as a dynamic, interactive organisation with the mission to conduct innovative translational research as well as to develop research collaborations across disciplines and professions to translate concepts into products to improve human health.
Position: Data Scientist
Requirements: The candidate must be proficient in R Programming, programme data validation checks and listing to identify discrepancies and preparing data sets for statistical analysis. They should also be able to perform exploratory data analysis (EDA), data analysis and data visualisation.

5. Niti Aayog: Established in 2015, Niti Aayog is a policy think tank that advises the central and the state governments on multiple aspects of strategising and drafting policies.
Position: Data Science and Data Analytics Lead
Requirements: The ideal candidate should preferably have an M.Tech., M.S., or a PhD along with research experience in areas such as information systems architecture; design and development of enterprise business solutions; data engineering; data science with a specialisation in computer vision; neural networks and visualisation tools (Tableau and Power BI) experience.
They should also have 3 to 8 years of work experience with a minimum of 2 years of experience in programme monitoring, evaluation, research or related fields.

6. National Tuberculosis Institute, Bangalore: Research institute under the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, dedicated towards advanced research on Tuberculosis.
Position: Data Analyst
Requirements: The candidate should be proficient in data analytics and statistical packages and also have two years of work experience in a relevant field.

7. National Law University (NLU): NLUs or NLS are public law schools at various locations in India founded to provide legal education sought to be implemented by the Bar Council of India.
Position: Data Analyst
About the project: The project entails analysis of judicial data on POCSO cases, drafting a report on the findings, and undertaking other allied tasks. The project is a study of ten years of POCSO and draws data from eight states on various aspects of the disposal of POCSO cases. Further, the project is expected to culminate in a research report scheduled to release in December 2022 and may be converted into deeper research projects or academic publications.
