In weekly our column ‘A Day In The Life Of’, we are trying to step into the shoes of the awesome techies from various organisations who are working in emerging tech areas like big data, data analytics, artificial intelligence and the internet of things, among others.
This week Analytics India Magazine decided to talk to Ramanujan G a Senior Delivery Manager at TEG Analytics, about his life as a dedicated techie who loves singing, sketching and building a robust data integration and reporting system.
Ramanujan, who heads the CPG vertical at TEG Analytics, says that he has reserved his mornings for quick workouts and family time. When asked about his work-life balance, Ramanujan says happily, “I have quite a few hobbies that I juggle with. I spend my late evenings practising singing or sketching. On days when I don’t do either of these, you’ll find me reading a book, or watching a movie. On weekends, I like to go trekking or camping at nearby getaway site.”
When asked about what his work primarily consists of, Ramanujan says, “I spend most of my time collaborating with the project delivery teams in delivering Analytical services to our clients. In addition to the regular work, I work on some exciting organisational initiatives too that not only improve our organisational capabilities but also serve an individual’s learning goals.” As a people manager, Ramanujan also mentors people and helps them achieve their professional aspirations.
Adding that one of the best things about working at TEG Analytics was the flexible laid-back work environment, Ramanujan says that he hardly ever needs to take his work home. He adds that the best part of his day, however, is the whiteboarding sessions. “I love these sessions when we convene as a team and figure out solutions to some of the tougher problems,” Ramanujan says, adding, “I also like these post lunch office cricket sessions that help me refresh my mind.”
Currently, Ramanujan is working on a project where the team is helping a multi-level marketing company with artificial intelligence and machine learning-powered solutions to understand their customers better on a more real-time basis. “In another project, we are helping a consumer packaged goods client build robust data integration and reporting system that will help them consume insights at the pace of the business and in turn achieve faster decision making,” he says.
When asked about whether his employers are making the best use of all his talents, Ramanujan says, “ Absolutely yes. I enjoy solving unstructured problems and building scalable and packaged solutions that serve the customers better. I am happy that I have been able to contribute to such projects here at TEG Analytics and I continue to do so.” He, however, thinks that he can get involved more on the creative side of things even though it is not his key responsibility area.
When asked about his professional goals, Ramanujan says candidly, “My five-year plan is to work on organisation-wide strategic initiatives, build more expertise and groom more leaders. My short term goal is to effectively contribute in all possible ways in achieving our 2019 objectives. In this process, work towards meeting my team’s and my personal goals.”
