Union minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said AI will help India become a developed nation by 2047. The minister was addressing the Global Artificial Intelligence Summit & Awards (3rd edition) in New Delhi. He said that the Make in India programme juxtaposed with AI technology will enable India to become a global factory providing both equipment and technology. The huge talent pool will help in exploring newer ways to make AI a part of every sector of economic activity.
The minister said, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, a major initiative of the government that was launched during the pandemic to provide additional food security to over 80 crore people, also uses AI in many ways. It helps understand the needs and behavior patterns of beneficiaries, gaining feedback about the performance of the fair price shops.
Goyal added that the government is implementing AI to redefine the way it works. One such example is Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), which leverages AI to improve the logistics ecosystem of the country.
Similar initiatives are – the PM Gatishakti National Master Plan that aims to develop smarter infrastructure, ONDC to democratize ecommerce, and GeM to make a significant impact for government procurement – leveraging AI to bring better delivery and efficiency of services.
Highlighting India’s fast adoption of technology, Goyal stated that education had reached millions of homes with over 800 million smartphones during the pandemic. He urged the industry to partner with the government to ensure the nation has access to the various advantages of 5G.
Sanjiv Mehta, president, FICCI and Subhrakant Panda, senior vice president, FICCI, along with other dignitaries were present at the event.
