Amazon announces its global computer science (CS) education programme - Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) - in India to enable students from underrepresented and underserved communities to access high-quality computer science education and job prospects, as reported by PTI.

Amazon's goal is to enable and give chances for computer science learning to more than one lakh students from 900 government and aided schools throughout seven Indian states. It will collaborate with a variety of education-focused non-profit organisations to bring high-quality computer science instruction to children in government schools throughout Karnataka, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Telangana.

"Computer science's pervasive nature has elevated it to a vital talent in the employment environment. Early access to computer science education would go a long way toward enabling India's youth to build the greatest future possible,” said Amit Agarwal, Global Senior Vice President and Country Head, Amazon India.

Amazon is collaborating with global knowledge partner Code.org, a non-profit organisation dedicated to computer science education, to provide Indian students with high-quality, mobile-friendly computer science content.

Hadi Partovi, Founder and CEO of Code.org, said, "We look forward to collaborating closely with AFE's network of partners in India to bring our high-quality computer science curriculum and best practises to students across the country."

"Class Chats," in which students meet Amazonians to learn about careers in the tech industry, and the "Amazon Cyber Robotics Challenge," in which students learn programming basics while coding robots and discover how Amazon uses robots to deliver millions of products around the world, are two examples of initiatives.

Amazon India will continue to scale the programme and extend the portfolio of CS-related education programmes in India over the coming few years. Scholarships, internships, problem-solving hackathon events, and tailored mentorship programmes will all be part of AFE's assistance for students.
