At re:Invent, Amazon recently introduced AWS Application Composer, a low-code device for visually designing and creating serverless applications. This new platform allows developers to seamlessly build functions that perform standard transformation tasks with an easy drag-and-drop interface.

Amazon chief technology officer Werner Vogels mentioned in his keynote that although many developers want to work with building serverless applications, the barrier of entry still needs to be lowered for many. That’s partial because most serverless applications are asynchronous systems. This issue can be resolved with Application Composer.

“Sometimes developers choose a synchronous system because it’s convenient. They look so much simpler. In a synchronous system, you have all these components. But, in the event-driven [architecture], how they work together can sometimes look a little daunting. So we’ve been thinking about how we can simplify this. How can you make it easier, for example, for developers that have never used serverless before? How do you know where to start? Which services do they need? How do they work together? We really wanted to make this easier,” added Vogels.

Benefits: With Application Composer, the developers have the freedom to take this code and continue working on it in their preferred IDE (integrated development environment), and since it is a visual tool, it’s also much easier to share this code with colleagues and work together on it.
