With schools being shut amidst the outbreak of COVID-19 in many locations around the United States, Google Classroom has gone on to clinch the top spot as an education app on both Android and iOS. The pandemic has provided the app with a massive boost of more than 50 million downloads recently.

The free education application has been on the scene for quite some time but has never been much popular. As per AppBrain, a service that tracks the popularity of other apps over a timeframe points out that the Classroom app did not stand in the top 100 educational apps early on in March. However, the scenario has changed since then.

The educational app by Google has suddenly jumped to the top 5 spots of the Play Store’s education catalogue in the United States. That’s not all as the app has gained sudden popularity in a number of other countries such as Mexico, Canada, Finland, Italy, Indonesia, and Poland.

A download of 50 million is a huge milestone for an application which Google Classroom has achieved on Playstore. Moving on to Apple, the counts are not available for the Classroom app on iOS, but the app has seen a surge in the downloads there as well.

Classroom is available for schools, non-profit organizations and anyone with a personal Google account. It enables teachers to connect with the student within minutes easily and comes with any advertisements. Absolutely free, the app does not use any content or student’s data for advertising purposes and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate, and stay organized. At present, the app stands on Playstore with a rating of 3.9 stars out of 5.
