Ian Goodfellow, director of machine learning at Apple, has reportedly stepped down from his role due to the company's return to work policy. This development was reported by The Verge's Zoe Schiffer, and Apple has not given an official response. Goodfellow is well-known for the invention of GANs.
Goodfellow joined Apple in March 2019 as the director of Machine Learning in the Special Projects Group. Prior to Apple, he worked at Google and OpenAI. As per reports, Goodfellow broke the news to the staff in an email, saying his resignation is in part due to Apple's plan to return to in-person work. "I believe strongly that more flexibility would have been the best policy for my team", he added in his mail.
