Google Cloud has announced that Karan Bajwa, who has been leading Google Cloud in India, has now been appointed as its new Google Cloud leader for the Asia Pacific.

According to the official release, Bajwa will lead all regional revenue and go-to-market operations for Google Cloud, including Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Google Workspace. Bajwa succeeds Rick Harshman who leaves the organisation for a new opportunity. For this role, Bajwa will directly report to Rob Enslin, the President of Sales at Google Cloud.

Currently based in Gurgaon, India, Bajwa is planning to relocate to Singapore sometime this year. He will also be continuing to lead Google Cloud in India until a new senior leader for the business is appointed.

Talking about this new appointment, Enslin said that, with Karan joining Google Cloud in March 2020, the company has seen massive growth in strength. Not only has he advanced the digital transformation journey of many large Indian organisations across various domains, but also successfully expanded the company’s partner community.

According to Enslin, Bajwa brings tremendous management and sales experience with him to this regional role. The company is thrilled to have him at the helm of the APAC business.

Bajwa also added that with the COVID disruptions of 2020, a true test of this new year will be how businesses replatform and build on the cloud not only for resilience but agility and innovation. “And, I’m excited for the opportunity to lead Google Cloud’s business in APAC to maximise this next phase of growth,” said Bajwa.

Currently, the company has been on a strong growth trajectory within the Asia Pacific region. It encompasses customers like ANZ Bank, Lendlease, Optus, Sharechat, Tech Mahindra, L&T Finance, Wipro, Samsung Electronics, Foxconn, Kia Motors, Go-JEK, Tokopedia, and XL Axiata, to name a few. Google Cloud also continues to invest in technical infrastructure by launching its GCP regions in Jakarta and Seoul last year, with planned expansion to Delhi and Melbourne in 2021.
