One year ago, Adobe released a web-based audio tool for recording and editing spoken audio like podcasts or voiceover called 'Project Shasta'. The name is inspired by the idea of everyone having stories they want to ‘shout from the hilltop,’—named after Mount Shasta in Northern California—Adobe’s home state.

Now, the company has decided to rebrand Project Shasta to Adobe Podcast, free for all users (beta testing phase). Riverside, ProTools, Audacity, and GarageBand are among the various audio editing tools that have been there for a long time, alongside compute-heavy audio editing tools such as Abelton, Apple’s Logic Pro X and others. Still, Adobe Podcast stands out as the first web editor to use AI and is now free of cost, unlike the rest.

The platform uses AI to improve voice quality. According to Adobe’s head of audio products, Mark Webster, the company started off the project in the hope of helping people record and edit audio easily. Adobe Podcast leverages web-based cloud platforms like Google Chrome to create and edit audio recordings in a visual interface without needing professional equipment or other advanced tools. In addition, the tool can be accessed without any charge.

Features of Adobe Podcast:

AI Filters: It is transcript-based audio editing that does not include working with traditional waveforms. Instead, it uses AI audio filters to enhance the sound. One of the filters includes Enhance Speech which cleans background noise and makes it sound like it was recorded in a professional setup. The other filters, including “Filler word removal”, removed all the unnecessary words like “ums” from your speech. The 3D audio filter spatialises and makes the audio immersive.

Audio Enhancement: Adobe Podcast has a mic check option that analyses your voice and suggests improving it while recording. Trained on hours of microphone data, mic check works on all the meters, like measuring the distance to the microphone and background noise and ensuring that you are ready to record.

Transcribe-based Model: It requires Google Chrome to record audio in clips, and Adobe Podcast automatically transcribes the recordings. It allows remote recording, where you can record by sharing a link. The tool syncs it back into the cloud in high quality, even if your internet is weak.

Remote Recording: It helps you record audio in clips, and Adobe Podcast automatically transcribes the recordings, similar to Descript and others. It allows remote recording, where you can record from anywhere by sharing a link.
