Opera, global tech firm recently announced the launch of a new version of its most popular mobile browser app, Opera Mini, for iPhone users, stuffed with artificial intelligence. The AI news engine aims to bring out the latest and most insightful news to the user without any efforts on setting it up. It would be available for iPhone users in India in regional languages such as Gujarati, Hindi and Tamil, apart from English. The company claims that the revamped user interface loads four times faster than previous version. “Opera’s AI news engine uses real-time intelligence ranking, powered by machine learning (G.B.D.T. algorithm) and deep learning (D.N.N. deep neural network)”, the company mentioned on its blogpost. The company further explained that once the user starts engaging with news content, it begins defining a unique user profile by accumulating news categories and publisher domains the user clicks on. The news engine then analyzes user’s interest through a deep learning model. “The more the user engages with the newsfeed, the more in-tune the content becomes for the user within the “For You” section”, it said. It also includes feedback from local editor teams and the editorial team can monitor the AI generated news feed to identify and remove fake news as quickly as possible. “The goal is to provide each user the ability to get their optimal content based on their interest, which is constantly evolving,” said Cuautemoc Weber, Head of Global Accounts & Content, Opera Software. Apart from India, the Opera AI news engine has been rolled out in countries like Ghana, Kenya, Indonesia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and the United States.
