Meta-owned WhatsApp will soon allow users to create larger group chats of up to 1,024 participants. The feature is available on WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS. However, sources claim that the feature is limited to a certain undefined number of beta testers. Moreover, the cap had increased from a size of 256 to 512 earlier this year.
The new feature is expected to roll out to more users in a future update. The larger WhatsApp groups will function the same as smaller WhatsApp groups, but with an addition of more messages and higher reach.

The new feature of larger WhatsApp groups will benefit enterprises and businesses, allowing users to send messages to multiple people simultaneously. In contrast, rival platforms such as Telegram allows users to add up to 200,000 people to the group.
Earlier this month, founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov called WhatsApp a ‘surveillance tool’, urging users to stay away from the app. Highlighting a security issue disclosed by WhatsApp in September, Durov stated that the platform has ‘put user data at risk’. He urged users to use any other instant messaging apps other than WhatsApp. Durov in his Telegram message said, “Hackers could have full access to everything on the phones of WhatsApp users."
