The Andhra Pradesh government has launched two artificial intelligence Centres of Excellence (AI CoEs) in Amaravati and Visakhapatnam to provide early-stage deeptech startups with access to high-performance GPU computing, AI sandboxes, mentorship, and commercialisation support.
The centres, sanctioned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the state's Department of IT, Electronics & Communications, will operate under the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub (RTIH). The initiative is aimed at strengthening Andhra Pradesh's AI startup ecosystem by providing entrepreneurs with advanced computing infrastructure, industry partnerships and market access.
Speaking at the launch, RTIH and Andhra Pradesh Innovation Society (APIS) CEO P Dhatri Reddy said the facilities are intended to help startups move beyond the ideation stage by offering the infrastructure and ecosystem support required to commercialise AI-driven innovations.
She added that the centres are expected to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and research institutions, helping position Andhra Pradesh as a preferred destination for AI-led entrepreneurship.
The AI CoEs will offer specialised AI sandboxes, high-performance compute infrastructure, mentorship programmes, and structured industry linkages, enabling startups to build, test, and scale AI applications without investing heavily in their own infrastructure.
Echoing this, Krishna Priya Akella, Founder and CEO of AI-powered influencer marketing platform Starbuzz.ai, noted that access to GPU computing resources, APIs, investor networks, and market connections could significantly reduce barriers for AI startups looking to build and scale products.
Tamil Nadu AI Association Executive Director C Aarthi Ram stressed that beyond infrastructure, startup support programmes should remain focused on solving customer problems and building sustainable businesses.
The role of universities in nurturing AI innovation was also emphasised. Ganesh Reddy Karri, Professor and Deputy Director at VIT-AP University's Centre of Excellence, called for stronger collaboration between academic institutions and industry to accelerate research translation and develop commercially relevant AI technologies.
