Varaha, an Indian climate-tech startup, has raised $20 million in Series B funding. The funding followed financial rounds by WestBridge Capital, along with the agreements with Microsoft and Google for significant carbon removals and reductions. Meanwhile, the company has also launched the Varaha Industrial Partners Program (VIPP), a biochar-focused partnership model that marks its next phase of carbon-negative growth.
Varaha scales smallholder farmer-led climate solutions to remove carbon from the atmosphere and strengthen rural livelihoods, focusing on sustainable agriculture. The key agreements with Google in 2025 and Microsoft in 2026 aimed to secure high-quality, durable carbon removal credits to meet their respective net-zero and carbon-negative goals. Varaha also delivered one of the highest volumes of durable carbon removal credits globally in recent times.
Speaking on the first climate tech investment, Sandeep Singhal, Co-Founder and Managing Partner, WestBridge Capital, said, “We believe the company is uniquely positioned to build a global carbon-removal platform from India, combining integrity, scale and impact. This investment reflects the team’s potential to shape the next phase of climate infrastructure worldwide.”
The company’s geographic expansion, combined with its new global-partnership model, extends the startup’s compliance to partners worldwide. Commenting on the launch of VIPP and the recent funding, Madhur Jain, CEO and Co-Founder of Varaha, said, “With VIPP, we’re opening our platform to industrial partners worldwide. If you have biomass and gasification capabilities, we can help you generate verified carbon removal credits. We invite operators globally to join us in scaling climate impact.”
The company adopted a technology- and science-driven approach to carbon project innovations from 2025-2026. Venture capital firms such as RTP Global and Omnivore showed belief in the company’s long-term vision to become a leading global carbon removal company by 2030.
