Online learning platform Coursera has launched Project Helix, an AI-native skills platform designed to connect employee training with business outcomes, in Bengaluru.

The company is expected to make the platform broadly available to enterprise customers in the first half of 2027, as it focuses on helping organisations measure whether workforce training translates into practical skills.

According to Coursera, Helix will allow managers to set business goals and generate personalised learning plans for employees. Workers will demonstrate their skills through practical assessments, while managers can identify skill gaps and track whether employees are developing the capabilities required to meet organisational objectives.

The platform is designed to move organisations beyond tracking course completions and AI tool usage. Companies can describe a business objective in natural language, and Helix will identify the required skills and recommend learning paths based on employees' roles and responsibilities.

It will enable employees to practise new skills and complete hands-on assessments to demonstrate their capabilities. Their verified skills will become part of a shareable record, while the platform adapts recommendations as they progress.

Managers will be able to see which skills employees have demonstrated and where further training is required. The intended outcome is a clearer connection between workforce development and the results companies seek to achieve.

    IIMBx Partnership Expands

Coursera also announced a partnership with the IIMBx Digital Learning Foundation of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) to offer management education to learners in India and around the world.

The partnership with IIMBx will bring new programmes to Coursera over the coming months, covering business strategy, entrepreneurship, data-driven decision-making, communication, digital marketing, public policy and fintech.

The initiative aims to make IIM Bangalore's management expertise available to a wider audience, including learners outside India.

“Through Coursera, we look forward to sharing IIM Bangalore’s expertise with a wider global audience and helping learners build skills they can apply to the decisions and challenges they face at work,” Sitaraman Shankar, CEO of IIMBx Digital Learning Foundation, IIM Bangalore, said during the announcement.

    Karnataka's AI Learning Demand

Coursera said learners in Karnataka enrol in GenAI content approximately every two minutes. GenAI, data analysis, machine learning ,and prompt engineering are among the leading skills they are pursuing on the platform.

The company also works with universities across the state through Coursera for Campus, which allows institutions to incorporate industry learning into academic programmes.

Its campus customers include Alliance University, REVA University, the National Institute of Engineering in Mysuru, Garden City University, Maharaja Institute of Technology Mysore, Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering, RNS Institute of Technology, P.E.S. College of Engineering in Mandya, RV University, Christ University and Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Coursera said that these collaborations give students access to industry courses alongside their university education. Helix is intended to address a related challenge for employers by helping them identify skill gaps and assess whether training prepares workers for the tasks their jobs require.

At the media briefing, Anthony Salcito, Global Head of Enterprise at Coursera, said India faces a substantial workforce development need, including reskilling and upskilling a billion Indians and preparing 50 million people to enter the workforce over the next few years.

“This has an impact on cost savings with increased efficiencies and productivity across organisations, but also growth as it relates to revenue and scale,” he added.
