Google is expanding Gemini Spark, its AI agent that can complete tasks in the background, to Google AI Pro subscribers in India over the next few weeks. The service, powered by Gemini 3.6 Flash, is available to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers and integrates with Google Workspace applications including Gmail, Docs and Sheets.
Unlike a traditional AI assistant that responds to prompts, Gemini Spark is built to carry out ongoing tasks on a user’s behalf. It runs on Google’s cloud infrastructure and continues working even when a user’s device is offline or locked.
Google said that Spark can “work quietly in the background” and connect with Workspace applications “with zero setup required”.
It further added that Spark automates recurring digital tasks while keeping users in control.
Users can decide whether to enable the service and which applications it can access. The company said Spark asks for confirmation before carrying out high-impact actions such as sending emails or making purchases.
“Spark always operates under your direction,” Google said. “You choose whether to turn it on and what apps it connects to, and it is designed to ask you first before performing high-stakes actions like spending money or sending emails.”
Google also shared examples of how the agent can be used. Travellers can instruct Spark to automatically add flight and hotel booking confirmations from Gmail to a Google Sheet and populate their calendar with local events during a trip.
Users can also schedule weekly searches for local activities and monitor sports court availability based on weather conditions.
For businesses, Spark can scan customer enquiries and prepare draft replies. It can also analyse a user’s previous emails to create a personalised writing style that is applied to future email drafts.
Google said Gemini Spark is part of its broader push towards AI agents that can complete tasks on a user's behalf instead of just answering questions.
