The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has launched a new MTech programme in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, aiming to make advanced AI education more accessible to both fresh graduates and working professionals.
Offered by the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Sustainability, the programme will follow a hybrid format combining online classes with on-campus lab sessions and final examinations. Notably, applicants do not need a GATE score, with admissions based on an institute-level written test or interview.
“The programme addresses the growing demand for expertise in intelligent systems, offering cutting-edge, interdisciplinary learning in machine learning, computer vision and robotics through a flexible format,” said Prof Hemant B. Kaushik, Dean of Outreach Education and Skilling at IIT Guwahati, in a statement.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the course offers multiple entry and exit options. Students can earn a postgraduate certificate or diploma, a Master of Science (Engineering), or complete the full MTech, depending on how long they remain enrolled. The minimum duration is two years, extendable to five years, allowing learners to balance studies with professional commitments.
All lectures will be conducted online and recorded for self-paced learning, while campus visits will enable hands-on training and interaction with faculty and industry experts.
The curriculum integrates robotics, AI, and automation with a strong focus on real-world applications. Students will also work on industry-relevant problems, gaining practical experience in areas such as robot kinematics, machine learning, and computer vision.
Graduates from the programme are expected to take up roles including robotics engineer, AI/ML engineer, automation specialist, and data scientist across industries and research institutions.
Applications for the inaugural batch are currently open, with a deadline of July 15, 2026 and classes scheduled to begin on August 10.
