MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai has stepped down from the database company to join Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, where he will report directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
He will lead a newly formed business focused on selling Meta’s AI technology to enterprises.
Meta announced Desai’s move alongside the launch of its new Enterprise Platform.
Meta said the new unit will bring its AI models, agents and infrastructure into products for businesses and developers.
Its initial technology stack will include the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code.
The company plans to build products businesses can deploy for areas including product development, customer engagement, decision-making, and day-to-day operations.
Desai joined MongoDB as CEO last November, succeeding Dev Ittycheria after the latter stepped down following 11 years leading the company.
Before MongoDB, Desai was President of Product and Engineering at Cloudflare and previously spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including as President and COO.
He has more than 25 years of experience across enterprise software, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity and AI.
MongoDB said Desai's resignation took effect on September 28 and was not related to any disagreement with the company's operations, policies or practices.
The company has appointed Ittycheria as interim President and CEO while its board searches for a permanent successor.
Meta's enterprise push extends its AI strategy beyond consumer products and advertising.
The company said it already works with millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses, and plans to use that existing business ecosystem alongside its models, agents and infrastructure to establish the new enterprise platform.
“We believe superintelligence will create significant new opportunities for all people and businesses,” wrote Zuckerberg in a post on X. “Meta Enterprise Platform will use our strengths that few other companies have: advanced models, leading agents, large-scale infrastructure, and years of working closely with many businesses.”
