NVIDIA’s board has approved an additional $150 billion for its share buyback programme, making it the largest single buyback authorisation increase in history, as the AI chipmaker continues to generate substantial cash from demand for its processors.
The company had previously announced an $80 billion share repurchase authorisation in May.
The new authorisation takes NVIDIA’s remaining buyback capacity to $235 billion, surpassing Apple’s previous $110 billion record. The company expects to execute the share buyback through fiscal year 2028.
“Our cash generation gives us the capacity to invest in the technologies that advance this transformation and return capital to shareholders,” NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement released by the company.
The announcement comes as NVIDIA continues to benefit from demand for chips used to train and run AI models. The company has forecast around 70% revenue growth for FY28, signalling continued confidence in demand for AI infrastructure.
The company ended its July quarter with $22.44 billion in cash and cash equivalents, as it continues to generate significant cash from its AI business.
NVIDIA’s shares were up 1.68% at the close of trading on September 28, trading at $228.86 apiece on Nasdaq. Over the last six months, its shares were up over 38%.
