Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched a dedicated business unit focused on helping enterprises establish and transform global capability centres (GCCs), as multinational companies increasingly look to embed artificial intelligence into their offshore operations.
The new unit, called Global Value and Innovation Centres (GVIC), will provide services spanning strategy, setup, operations, and AI-led transformation for GCCs.
TCS said the offering will help enterprises build "AI-native" GCCs and modernise existing centres into hubs focused on innovation and business outcomes.
The launch comes at a time when GCCs are moving beyond their traditional role as delivery and support centres to take ownership of products, platforms, and business functions. India remains the largest GCC market globally, with companies across sectors expanding their captive centres to access engineering talent and drive digital transformation initiatives.
As part of the move, TCS has appointed Soumen Roy to head the business unit. Roy, who most recently served as TCS Canada country head, will report to CEO and Managing Director K Krithivasan.
According to the company, the GVIC unit will bring together its GCC consulting and operational expertise with AI, cloud, engineering, and talent capabilities. The offering includes support for data and cloud foundations, enterprise platforms, talent development, and responsible AI frameworks.
“With TCS GVIC, we are bringing together TCS’ deep experience across the GCC lifecycle with our strengths in AI, engineering, talent, and operations to build high-impact, future-ready global centres that deliver sustained business value for clients,” Krithivasan, CEO and MD, TCS, said in a statement.
TCS said it currently works with more than 150 enterprises globally across different stages of the GCC lifecycle, from setting up centres to scaling and transforming operations.
The move also reflects the growing importance of GCCs for India's technology services industry.
As enterprises seek to integrate AI into business processes, IT services providers are increasingly positioning themselves as partners not just for technology implementation but also for designing and operating AI-enabled captive centres.
