The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is cooperating with the Mehta Family Foundation (MFF) in the United States of America to build the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, and Mr Rahul Mehta, Chief Executive Officer, Mehta Family Foundation, USA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations in the august presence of Prof. K. VijayRaghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India, and Prof. Sandeep Verma, Secretary, Science and Engineering Research Board, Government of India.
Prof. Sandeep Verma, Secretary, Science and Engineering Research Board, Government of India, said, “I am confident that this collaboration between IIT Roorkee and the Mehta Family Basis will equip students with a strong theoretical and practical foundation. IIT Roorkee is a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence and data science, and this MoU with the Mehta Family Foundation will aid in the establishment of knowledge and information resource centres.”
The new School will offer Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree programmes as a result of this collaboration, and the first cohort of Bachelor’s degree students will begin classes in September 2022. The School’s purpose is to generate new and skilled talent in the domains of data science and artificial intelligence, as well as to empower existing manpower through the provision of targeted training and certifications in these fields.
Mr Rahul Mehta, Chief Executive Officer, Mehta Family Foundation, USA, said, “Our world is undergoing rapid transformation as a result of artificial intelligence-driven technology. Academic cooperation such as this one between International academics and IIT Roorkee will develop persons capable of addressing global issues like climate change, resource sustainability, and security.”
The Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence additionally supports the Indian government’s Make-in-India and Atma-Nirbhar efforts by fostering entrepreneurship and companies in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence and by establishing resource centres for information and knowledge sharing.
