Noted tech giant Sony is reportedly set to open artificial intelligence labs in India, in the coming year 2020. A noted Asian news portal has said that the first of these AI labs will be opened in Bengaluru.
The report goes on to say that Sony is also planning to hire Indian talent, build its network of strong local researchers. They are also looking at hiring engineers who would want to return to India after working abroad for a while.
The Bangalore facility will be Sony’s seventh global R&D centre, after Japan, US and China.
Earlier this year, the company had made the news because of their trend to pay the new hires working on AI products up to 20% more than previous years. Taking a turn from traditional pay systems, Sony had started paying its new employees working in AI more than seniors at the company. This controversial move was reportedly inspired by the need to stay ahead in the rush for AI talent.
