IBM – Data Science Professional Certificate (Coursera) 

A generally accepted professional certificate on Coursera, awarded by IBM, that helps students prepare for work in entry-level data science roles. The course content teaches Python, SQL, data visualisation, ML and hands-on practice to use Jupyter/IBM Cloud. It is prescriptive for beginners, is project-based (creates a portfolio) and is aimed at helping students be ready for work by utilising access to IBM’s talent network.

• Duration: Approximately 4 months at 10 hours/week (flexible learning)
• Learning sessions: 12-course offering with 146 practice exercises and multiple hands-on labs

HarvardX – Data Science Professional Certificate (edX) 

This course takes a more academic approach. It is built around R, statistics, reproducible research, inference, modelling, ML and a capstone. The HarvardX data science course series consists of numerous courses, which range from R fundamentals, visualisation, probability, inference, wrangling, regression, ML and, ultimately, a capstone. Courses are usually offered in 66-week time frames (self-pacing is available). 

This course is strongly grounded in statistics and reproducible research with Harvard faculty.

Intellipaat – Data Engineering (MITx MicroMasters)

Intellipaat features once more, this time with a data engineering programme that integrates MITx MicroMasters content. It is aimed at students who want to work on the data infrastructure side. The learning covers SQL, Python, ETL, Spark and PySpark, Airflow, AWS and Azure data services, data modelling, and DevOps fundamentals.

Students learn through prerecorded lessons, live sessions, weekly assignments and in-person quizzes. The programme has one of the largest enrollments in the country. Fees vary depending on the level and the student’s scholarship eligibility. Credibility comes built-in through IIT Madras.
