Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com, Inc. company, recently announced the general availability of Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus, a scalable, secure, and highly available service that makes monitoring containerized applications easier for its customers.

Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus is fully compatible with open-source Prometheus and provides the same familiar time series data model and Prometheus Query Language (PromQL) customers use today to monitor containerized applications.

The service comes with additional capabilities such as the Prometheus-compatible alert manager, recording rules and alerting rules. Support for provisioning Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus workspaces, rules configurations, and alert manager configurations with AWS CloudFormation have also been added to the managed service.

“With Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus, customers have access to a scalable, secure, and highly available monitoring service that is optimized for containerized applications running on AWS and on-premises. Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus eliminates the undifferentiated heavy lifting of running Prometheus, so customers can focus on building modern applications that help them deliver new, innovative experiences to their end-users,” said Nandini Ramani, Vice President of Monitoring and Observability, AWS.

Prometheus integrates with Kubernetes, a software that’s used to orchestrate large numbers of containers.

When companies lacked insight into the performance of their apps, they risked disruption and subpar performance, and Prometheus alone was earlier utilized to overcome this challenge. However, it took time to optimize how Prometheus uses memory and storage resources to improve response times and keep costs low.

Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus is meant to relieve such headaches. The most important benefit of the new service is that it is fully managed and serverless, so customers can just fire it up without worrying about the infrastructure it runs on or hassle with trying to optimize its performance.

Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus is priced based on the amount of data ingested and stored. The service is available now in Amazon’s US East (Ohio), US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland) and Europe (Stockholm) regions.
