Descript Launches Cursor-like Platform for Video Editing

Descript, a video and podcast editing platform, has launched an agentic video editor described as a “cursor for video.” This smart, versatile AI co-editor, built directly into the Descript platform, promises to transform video editing by applying judgment and expertise, not just executing commands.

Unlike traditional editing tools, Descript’s AI co-editor goes beyond simple task automation. It uses reasoning and video know-how to enhance the look and sound of videos, making creative decisions and guiding the editing process. 

Users can simply instruct the AI what they want, and it will handle everything from script creation and translation to complex editing tasks such as removing filler words, adding lower thirds, inserting b-roll, and adjusting videos to specific lengths. It can even fix poor audio, remove awkward silences, and automatically create promotional trailers.

The AI co-editor is built to be incredibly fast and efficient, taking over tedious and time-consuming tasks of video production, the company said. It supports a wide range of video types, including product demos, webinars, podcasts, and avatar-hosted explainers.
