Google every year allows students from class 5th till 12th to participate in the Code To Learn Contest. And this year is no different, Google has opened up the registration process for students to enrol in the competition and build computational thinking from 4th May. The program has been successfully inviting students to blaze their trail and develop various software solutions. Participants can leverage the resources that the program provides to make their applications even without writing a single line of code.
However, the idea is to get them to learn the basics of programming, including machine learning. Google is offering exciting tools such as Scrach, App Inventor and Google AutoML to help students develop solutions of their choice. While Scrach assists students in creating and sharing stories, games and animations, App Inventor allows them to build android applications without coding. Google AutoML empowers students to build machine learning models.
Students can access learning resources to first become familiar with the tools and then attempt to build numerous projects. But, Google AutoML is only allowed for students in class 9 and above. They can define their own problem statements and leverage machine learning techniques to solve the challenges. To successfully compete in this competition, participants will have to submit the projects by 31st July.
As per Google India, last year, they witnessed active participation from Indian students from different schools who built funny games, apps for farmers, and more. The program has gained traction over the years and is also adopted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under the Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiya.
At the time when the learning of students has come to a standstill due to lockdown, this is an exceptional opportunity for learners to upskill and develop programming skills/understanding. Parents or teachers can also register on behalf of the learners here and encourage students to actively participate in building software of their choice.
