IIT Roorkee and tech education firm Scaler have partnered to launch an advanced AI engineering programme aimed at closing the skill gap in India’s AI and tech workforce. The programme, offered through IIT Roorkee’s Continuing Education Centre (CEC), will train professionals in various roles, including data scientists, AI engineers, DevOps engineers, and software developers.

The two-month course, available to both tech and non-tech professionals, combines live online classes with hands-on projects. It includes a two-day campus immersion at IIT Roorkee, where learners can access research facilities and interact with industry leaders. Graduates will receive a joint certificate from IIT Roorkee and Scaler.

“Our partnership with Scaler represents a strategic step towards shaping the future of technical education by combining academic depth with industry-driven innovation,” said Kaushik Ghosh, coordinator at CEC.

The programme’s curriculum covers machine learning (ML), deep learning, large language models (LLMs), and generative AI tools like OpenAI’s ChatCompletion, Copilot, and Cursor. It also features sector-specific applications, including healthcare, where learners will explore AI-driven improvements in diagnosis, drug discovery, and patient care.

Scaler co-founder Abhimanyu Saxena said the collaboration reflects a “shared commitment to building the next generation of tech talent” and is intended to launch additional industry-aligned programmes in the future.

Scaler, founded in 2019, offers structured, mentor-led programmes in software development and data science. This partnership takes a step toward academia’s contribution, which will soon lead to more such collaborations in India. This also further enhances the industry’s concern about the lack of a tailored curriculum to raise a skilled workforce accustomed to specific job profiles.
