Analytics solutions provider Manthan’s CEO Atul Jalan has teamed up with like-minded individuals from Bengaluru to launch an open community initiative called Thoda Bahut. Started to help communities most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, it brings together supplies, logistics, and funds for local and immediate intervention.

Thoda Bahut is built on the fundraising platform GiveIndia. Envisaged as an open platform, it has been calling out to organisations that want to either collaborate and support this initiative, or create another by replicating the model in another city.

“The idea is to get the local community involved for the local community,” said Atul Jalan. “Because the beneficiaries and the problems are local, the community feels a greater sense of ownership.” he adds.

Rationale Behind Thoda Bahut

According to the collective behind Thoda Bahut, no one can reach out with help faster than the local community. This is because the community is best placed to  identify local issues and work out solutions faster.

At present, the team have identified three sets of local beneficiaries - auto drivers who have been rendered jobless since the lockdown, Bengaluru City Police, and healthcare professionals.

The services delivered are diverse and include donations, marketing, operations, logistics, supplies and deliveries, all managed by a lean yet growing team. At present, they are sourcing 12,000 face shields per day, and aim to support families of 15,000 auto drivers for 3 months.

The team have swiftly set up suppliers locally in Bengaluru to manufacture and deliver the required products. Having tied up with suppliers and ensured delivery, Thoda Bahut is now raising funds from within the community.
