Cyient Semiconductors, a custom chip company in Hyderabad, and MIPS, a global leader in RISC-V processor technology, have teamed up to create special chips for power management, industrial robots, and automotive uses.

They will work together to address real-time, safety-critical applications, power delivery, and compute efficiency in automotive, industrial, and data centre markets, with a focus on motor control and data centre power delivery platforms, according to a statement.

Cyient will use its expertise in analogue and mixed-signal design, while MIPS will offer its RISC-V-based Atlas CPU IP to create scalable, open-architecture semiconductor solutions.

“The strategic collaboration aims to develop domain-optimised ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) and ASSP (application-specific standard product) solutions leveraging MIPS’ Atlas portfolio of advanced processor IP,” it said.

Suman Narayan, CEO of Cyient Semiconductors, said, “As compute scales from cloud to edge, embedded intelligence and advanced power architectures are critical. Together with MIPS, we’re building semiconductors for a more connected and power-efficient world.”

Sameer Wasson, CEO of MIPS, added, “MIPS M8500 microcontrollers offer best-in-class real-time performance for power efficiency and motor control. Cyient’s expertise in intelligent power delivery enables differentiated ASIC/ASSP designs tailored to customer needs in target markets.”

The collaboration comes at a time when demand is growing for software-controlled vehicles, industrial automation, and better data centre infrastructure.

“These platforms will be offered as ASSPs or ASICs, enabling OEMs and system integrators to reduce time-to-market, avoid proprietary lock-ins, and optimise costs,” the statement said.
