Perplexity, the AI startup, announced on August 13 that it has expanded its suite of features in the finance sector, called Perplexity Finance, to India.
This can now be used to find the latest information, news, and live stock prices for Indian stock market exchanges like the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE).
Other features include explanations for notable price movements, downloads of historical data, financial models in Excel, and live earnings for some BSE and NSE equities.
Jeff Grimes, the head of live events product at Perplexity, said that more features, such as stock screening with natural-language inputs and price alerts, are set to come soon.
Users of Perplexity in India will now view Indian markets by default in Perplexity Finance, but can also toggle to view the United States markets.
In the United States, Perplexity has recently introduced a feature that enables users to extract data from SEC filings and utilise tools to derive insights from related documents. Besides, Perplexity also allows users to view information for cryptocurrencies.
The company initially started with AI-powered features that retrieved information from the internet, functioning like a search engine. Over time, it has broadened its scope to include tools related to finance, shopping, and more.
Additionally, it introduced Comet, a web browser that autonomously handles browser-based tasks for users.
Recently, Airtel, a major telecom provider in India, has been providing a free one-year Perplexity Pro plan via the Airtel Thanks app on smartphones. Valued at $200 (~₹17,000), it offers access to additional models on Perplexity, including OpenAI’s o3, Grok 4, Claude 4,0 Sonnet, along with Pro and Reasoning search modes, file analysis, the Labs feature, and more.
