Adobe has expanded its AI-powered creative platform Firefly with new capabilities, including custom AI models, enhanced video and image tools, as well as conversational AI features aimed at streamlining the creative workflow.
The update builds on the evolution of generative AI, moving beyond simple text-to-image prompts towards more interactive and iterative creative processes. With Firefly, Adobe aims to offer an all-in-one environment where users can generate, refine, and edit content seamlessly.
A key highlight of the update is the introduction of custom models, now available in public beta. These models allow users to train AI on their own images to replicate a specific visual style, character design, or photographic aesthetic. Once trained, the model can be reused across projects, helping creators maintain consistency in their work.
Custom models are particularly suited for illustration styles, character-based designs, and photography, where maintaining uniformity in elements such as colour, lighting, and composition is critical. “These models are private by default, ensuring that users retain ownership of their creative assets,” Adobe said.
Firefly now integrates more than 30 AI models from across the industry, including those from Google, OpenAI, and Runway. This allows users to generate content using one model and refine it using another, all within a single platform.
Alongside model integration, Adobe has introduced new editing tools to speed up production workflows. Features like Quick Cut can convert raw footage into a structured first draft within minutes, while expanded image editing tools allow users to add or remove objects and extend scenes more easily.
The update comes as Adobe continues to deepen its focus on generative AI across its product ecosystem, integrating Firefly into tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Express while introducing AI-powered features such as Generative Fill and text-based editing. The company has been steadily positioning Firefly as a commercially viable, creator-focused AI model trained on licensed and public-domain data to differentiate itself in the growing AI design space.
The company is also pushing toward conversational AI-driven creativity. Under a new initiative called Project Moonlight, currently in private beta, users can interact with AI agents through chat to generate and edit content. These agents can take actions within tools like Photoshop and Acrobat, enabling a more intuitive and guided creative process.
“Firefly is designed to reduce the gap between idea and execution by combining generation and editing into a single workflow,” the company added. As AI continues to evolve, the company is positioning Firefly as a central hub for creative professionals looking to produce content faster while maintaining control over their style and output.
