Anthropic has rolled out India-specific pricing for its Claude AI subscriptions, allowing users to pay in Indian Rupees instead of US dollars, as the San Francisco-based AI startup deepens its presence in what has become its second-largest market after the US.
The new pricing is being introduced across Claude’s web platform and mobile apps in phases. Under the revised plans, Claude Pro is priced at ₹1,999 per month, while Claude Max is available at ₹11,999 per month for the 5x usage tier and ₹23,999 per month for the 20x tier.
Claude Team, aimed at businesses, starts at ₹2,399 per seat per month with a minimum of five users. Previously, Indian customers had to subscribe using international payment methods and were billed in US dollars.
The move simplifies payments for Indian users and reflects the country’s growing importance to Anthropic. According to the company’s India Economic Index released earlier this year, India accounts for 5.8% of global Claude.ai consumer usage, making it Anthropic’s largest market outside the US.
The localisation comes as competition intensifies among AI chatbot providers seeking to expand in India, one of the world’s fastest-growing AI markets. OpenAI offers ChatGPT Plus at around ₹1,999 per month, while Google’s Gemini Advanced is bundled with Google AI Pro at ₹1,950 per month. Elon Musk’s xAI recently introduced local pricing for Grok in India as well, making pricing a key competitive lever alongside model capabilities.
Anthropic has also extended its promotional offer for Claude Fable 5 until July 19, allowing eligible paid subscribers to use the model without additional charges within their existing usage limits.
The pricing announcement follows a series of India-focused initiatives by Anthropic, including the launch of Claude for Small Business and the expansion of its enterprise offerings. By removing foreign-currency payments and aligning subscription costs with the local market, the company aims to lower barriers to adoption among developers, startups, students, and enterprises as demand for generative AI tools continues to accelerate in India.
