Amazon Web Services (AWS) India, on February 17, announced plans to work with Yotta Data Services to deploy AWS Outposts for the National Informatics Centre’s Meghraj 2.0 initiative.
The Indian government’s cloud initiative, led by the National Informatics Centre, pushes departments to adopt cloud-based services while complying with regulatory requirements.
The deployment will allow government departments to use AWS services while meeting data residency and security requirements.
Under the collaboration, AWS Outposts will be installed in NIC data centres to support workloads that must remain on premises. Government departments will be able to access AWS services, including generative AI capabilities, within the Meghraj 2.0 framework.
AWS Outposts allows applications running in NIC facilities to integrate with the AWS Region in India during peak demand. According to the companies, departments can expand workloads such as data ingestion to the AWS Region and synchronise data back to NIC data centres within hours. The setup enables scaling beyond on-premises capacity constraints while keeping sensitive workloads within government infrastructure.
The deployment will also allow NIC to use AWS managed services such as Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS), Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). Security guardrails can be enforced using AWS Control Tower to establish a baseline for new workloads and reduce configuration errors.
“This synergy with Yotta represents AWS’s commitment to supporting the Indian government's digital transformation vision,” said Sandeep Dutta, President, AWS India and South Asia. “By deploying AWS Outposts for NIC Meghraj 2.0, we’re enabling government departments to leverage the full power of our cloud services and generative AI capabilities while meeting the requirements for sensitive workloads.”
Sunil Gupta, Co-founder, Managing Director and CEO of Yotta Data Services, said the partnership supports the development of sovereign digital infrastructure for the public sector. “Government departments can now scale citizen services, leverage generative AI, and innovate while ensuring data residency and security within India’s infrastructure ecosystem,” he added.
