Conversational messaging software provider Gupshup has launched Avatar Agent, a self-serve platform that lets businesses create AI agents that interact with customers through video, expanding the company’s offerings across messaging, voice, and web.

The platform allows businesses to create and launch video-based agents without an integration process. The agents can answer customer queries, explain products, qualify leads, and guide users through processes on websites, mobile devices, tablets, and kiosks.

The launch builds on Gupshup’s recent Voice AI release, bringing video to its range of AI agents. Businesses can also extend existing messaging agents to voice and video across channels.

“Even as AI agents multiply, customer experience doesn't have to become impersonal. Avatar agents bring back the personal touch: the feeling that someone is present, listening, understanding and helping. That's what builds trust,” Beerud Sheth, Founder and CEO of Gupshup, said in a statement.

Avatar Agent provides a self-serve interface that lets businesses customise their agents' layouts, visual styles, brand elements, and messaging. They can also choose from presets tailored to specific industries.

The platform can be configured and managed through Gupshup SuperAgent, ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI assistants. Businesses can describe their requirements in plain language to set up an agent.

Beyond individual customer interactions, the agents can host product walkthroughs and webinars, present materials, and answer audience questions across time zones. If a customer requires human assistance, the agent can transfer the interaction to a person.

Gupshup said businesses across sectors—from banking and financial services to e-commerce, real estate, travel and hospitality, and education—can use video agents to handle customer-facing tasks.

Gupshup said Avatar Agent is available now through its website, with a free tier that includes Gupshup branding. Businesses looking to scale can opt for pay-as-you-go pricing.

The company provides a conversational engagement platform that allows businesses to build customer experiences and AI agents across WhatsApp, RCS, SMS, web and voice and video.
