Figma has launched an AI-powered design agent embedded directly into its multiplayer canvas, aiming to help product teams generate, edit, and refine designs in real time. The company said the tool is built for product design workflows and will initially roll out in beta to paid Figma Design users over the coming weeks.

The company said the agent will not consume AI credits during the beta period, and users can join a waitlist for early access.

The agent works within Figma’s collaborative design environment, enabling teams to create design layers, automate repetitive tasks, test ideas, and receive feedback without leaving the canvas.

Figma said the tool is designed to understand workflows, design systems, and team context, while enabling designers, engineers, product managers, and marketers to work together using natural language.

“As building software gets easier, what matters most is setting direction: deciding what to work on, how it should function, what the experience should feel like,” said Loredana Crisan, Chief Design Officer at Figma.

The launch comes as software teams increasingly adopt AI tools to speed up product development. Figma said its design agent acts as a collaborator rather than a chatbot and works alongside users directly on the canvas.

The company said the tool understands product design concepts, Figma-specific workflows, and team standards developed over time. Teams can also work with multiple agents simultaneously in parallel threads without switching between tools.

“Teams can now collaborate with agents on the multiplayer canvas to test out ideas, visualise edge cases, and refine concepts together without over-indexing on the more tedious parts,” Crisan said.

Figma said the agent can automate tasks such as component setup, layout fixes, and bulk edits while staying connected to existing design systems and canvas conversations. The company added that the tool lowers the barrier to design for non-design teams by enabling users to work through natural-language prompts.

The launch adds to Figma’s existing AI products, including its prompt-to-prototype tool, Figma Make, and the Figma Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which lets teams connect with third-party coding agents.

According to the company, weekly active users of its MCP server grew fivefold in the first quarter of 2026, reflecting growing demand for AI-assisted product development. Figma said teams can now move between design and code more smoothly by using the agent to create concepts and Figma Make to turn them into working applications.

“I work in Figma because it’s always felt like a natural extension of my hand,” said Andy Madrick, a product designer at Notion, who participated in the company’s early access programme.

“Once I attached my design libraries, I was able to move from design to code at a velocity I haven’t found in any prior workflow,” Madrick added.
