The fintech sector emerged as Karnataka’s largest funding magnet in 2025, attracting $1 billion in investments—a 47% jump year-on-year—even as overall tech funding in the state declined.
The surge allowed fintech to overtake retail as the top-funded sector, signalling a clear investor shift toward high-margin, regulatory-compliant digital infrastructure amid a broader funding slowdown, according to Tracxn’s Karnataka Tech Annual Funding Report 2025.
Total funding raised by Karnataka-based tech companies moderated to $3.8 billion in 2025, marking a 28% decline from 2024 and a 23% drop compared with 2023. Deal activity also contracted sharply, with a 27% fall in deal volumes, reflecting a structural move away from broad-based capital deployment toward selective, high-conviction investments.
The pullback was most pronounced at the late stage, where funding fell 50% year-on-year to $1.8 billion, as investors retreated from scaling mature companies. In contrast, early-stage funding proved resilient, rising 32% to $1.6 billion, underscoring growing investor appetite for backing the next wave of innovation rather than funding late-stage expansion.
Within sectors, enterprise applications remained stable at $1.1 billion, while retail funding declined 36% to $920 million.
The fintech surge was led by Groww’s $202-million Series F round. Karnataka recorded just three $100 million-plus funding rounds in 2025—down from nine in each of the previous two years—with major hauls by Zepto, Groww, and Jumbotail.
Despite tighter capital conditions, the ecosystem continued to demonstrate maturity. Karnataka added three new unicorns during the year and saw nine tech companies list on public markets, up from eight IPOs in 2024. Groww, Meesho, and Ather Energy were among the notable listings, indicating sustained exit readiness.
Mergers and acquisitions activity remained steady, with 46 acquisitions completed in 2025. The largest deal was Groww’s $150-million acquisition of wealth tech startup Fisdom, followed by ICRA’s acquisition of regtech platform Fintellix for $26 million.
Bengaluru continued to dominate the state’s tech landscape, accounting for nearly 100% of total funding raised in Karnataka during the year. Investor participation remained active across stages, led by Antler, Rainmatter, and Inflection Point Ventures at the seed stage; Peak XV Partners, Accel, and Elevation Capital at the early stage; and Sofina, SoftBank Vision Fund, and Think Investments at the late stage.
