Bengaluru-based GalaxEye has acquired spacecraft engineering company StarOps (formerly part of TeamIndus) to strengthen its satellite engineering capabilities and expand its end-to-end space technology stack.
The acquisition brings StarOps’ engineering team, satellite platforms, and proprietary spacecraft technologies under GalaxEye’s umbrella.
“From day one, our vision has been to build a company that develops and owns the technologies defining the future of space,” said Suyash Singh, Co-founder and CEO of GalaxEye, in a statement.
The acquisition aims to help GalaxEye build a fully integrated space technology company by combining spacecraft platforms, satellite subsystems, and Earth observation payloads. StarOps, incorporated in 2022, will contribute engineering expertise spanning mission design, propulsion, avionics, flight computing, guidance and navigation, structures, electrical systems, and ground operations.
Several members of the StarOps team previously worked at TeamIndus on its lunar lander and rover programme. GalaxEye said their experience across the full mission lifecycle will strengthen its capabilities throughout the satellite value chain.
The acquisition also adds qualified satellite bus platforms across the 50 kg, 150 kg, and 250 kg classes, along with testing infrastructure, engineering tools, and proprietary subsystem technologies.
StarOps said more than 66% of its satellite systems are indigenised, reducing dependence on global supply chains while enabling faster development and lower mission costs.
Nirmal Suraj Gadde, Co-founder and Missions Lead at StarOps, said the company has focused on building indigenous satellite systems and manufacturing capabilities for India’s commercial space sector. He added that the team will now contribute its experience to GalaxEye’s plans to develop and deploy a constellation of OptoSAR satellites.
GalaxEye said the acquisition aligns with its long-term strategy of developing indigenous technologies across the satellite value chain. The company expects the integration to accelerate product development, deepen vertical integration, and strengthen its ability to deliver complete space missions from concept to operations.
